The absolutely
true about friendship and life
Junior’s friendship with Rowdy was one of the
purest friendships in the story. They were like brothers, they used to share
everything and they trusted in each other. Junior said in chapter 3 page 20 “I think Rowdy might be the most important person in
my life. Maybe more important than my family. Can your best friend be more
important than your family?” Junior
believed that Rowdy was his family he even loved him more than his real one. The
reason why he thought like this, is because Rowdy was his confident, they
shared many moments together and life was easier having a friendship like that.
Junior felt secure with Rowdy; when Junior went out the reservation and his
friendship was in a conflict, Junior used to remember the way Rowdy helped him.
Junior says in chapter 9 page 57 “I wished Rowdy was still my friend. I could have sent him after Roger.
It would have been like King Kong battling Godzilla.” Rowdy was like a shield to Junior, he helped him in his worst moments
when he couldn’t defend himself.
Life wasn’t easy for Junior, people at the reservation used to call him ‘an apple’ because as Junior said they thought he was red on the outside and white on the inside. This was because Junior was studying outside the reservation were many white people was studying as well. Indians considered him a traitor for studying surrounded by white people.
